We all have come across or heard the term Henna at-least once in our lives. Either we have seen our parents getting old and seen them using its paste to color their hair or even worse, we have seen ourselves getting old and tried to use it to hide the white in our hair. But henna is not all about being used as a hair dye. Organic henna powder can be used to get longer, stronger, smoother, and thicker hair to an extent that artificial products cannot even match. Henna can return the shine and luster to your hair that you lost years ago. It repairs the follicles and nourishes the scalp to improve the quality of your hair if used regularly.

Henna as a product is completely natural and contains a ton of properties that all act in favor of your hair. For example, it’s anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, restores and maintains the acid-alkaline balance of the scalp without hampering the natural growth of the hair.

We saw various properties of henna that one can take advantage of. However, as said before, henna is used primarily by people to hide their white hair from being openly displayed in public. The thing of note here, however, is that not every type of henna can be straightaway unzipped, mixed with water, and applied straight away. The best henna for this purpose is ‘black henna’ which gives a solid color to the hair. If you mix black henna with natural henna, then you get silkier and more natural-looking black hair.

Another thing to note while using henna is to remember that herbal henna hair color doesn’t dye your hair black, but rather gives away a red hue whose intensity depends on the amount and intensity of application. At the end of the day, the result is a shade that lies between light and dark red. Henna application is all in all a maximum 15-minute process during which you need to make sure that your skin doesn’t get strained due to its application. The best way to apply henna or any other hair dye (natural or artificial) for that matter is by using a hairbrush or a spatula. For best results, make sure that the purchased henna powder is natural- its identification is that it comes in a greenish color.

Applying henna to your hair is very easy and is just a 4-step process-

  1. Boil black tea leaves

Take some water in a saucer, drop some tea leaves in it and allow it to simmer for a while.

  1. Prepare henna mask

Depending on the number of your white/gray hairs, mix the henna powder in water and allow it to soak overnight. The following morning, pour black tea and some lemon juice in it and stir well.

  1. Apply the mask

In the entire section of gray hairs, apply the mask with a brush. Apply it all over the hair, making sure that various sections don’t stick with one other and leave your hair as it is for close to 30 minutes.

  1. Wash it off

After waiting, rinse off the mask thoroughly. You may use a conditioner for easy removal. Once hair has been properly washed, your henna treatment is done. Note the whites gone away, replaced with barely noticeable red hues.
