Amla or Indian gooseberry may look like just any other small fruit but it’s a powerhouse of nutrients! Packed with vitamin C, iron and calcium, the sour, sweet fruits are widely used in Ayurvedic medicines.
Using amla powder for hair care can solve many hair problems like hair fall, dryness, brittle hair, hair damage, dandruff. Using Amla powder regularly makes hair strands stronger and adds luster to the tresses. To use amla powder for a healthy scalp and skin you do not need to go through any painstaking process of drying, grinding and preserving it. Organic Amla powder is readily available in the market. Here are a few ways of using amla powder for hair woes.
Hair fall remedy:
Amla is a rich source of essential fatty acids which helps in nourishing the hair from the roots. Just make a paste by mixing amla powder, water and few drops of lemon juice. Apply it on your hair. Leave it for twenty to thirty minutes and wash it off.
For strong hair:
Soak one tablespoon of fenugreek (Methi) seeds in water for 6 to 7 hours. Grind it into a fine paste. Add 1 tablespoon of amla powder and yogurt to it and mix it till a smooth paste is formed. Apply the paste on your scalp and the entire length of your hair. Rinse it off after 1 hour with a mild shampoo.
Treat split ends:
Take 1 tablespoon of henna powder and 1tablespoon of amla powder in a bowl. Mix plain yogurt to it and whip the ingredients together into a smooth paste. Before applying the hair mask, slightly dampen your hair. Let the paste sit for an hour. After 1 hour rinse it off with a mild shampoo.
Mix 1 tablespoon amla powder, 1 egg white, and 1 teaspoon of natural honey. Whip them all together until you get a fluffy consistency. Dampen your hair and apply the mask made from amla powder for hair growth. After the paste dries completely rinse it off a gentle shampoo.
Take 2 teaspoons of Shikakai powder and amla powder each in a bowl. Add some plain curd to the powders and form a paste. Apply the paste on your scalp and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash with water and a mild shampoo.
Amla powder for face packs
Amla powder has strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties but also has an astringent effect. It works well for oily to moderately dry skin for minimizing pores and firming the skin. For people with extremely dry skin, amla powder for face treatments may not be very suitable.
For cleansing and soft skin:
Take 2 teaspoons of amla powder. Add warm water and mix it to a smooth consistency. Add 1 teaspoon of natural honey and mix it well. Next, add 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt and mix well. Apply on your face. Wash it off after 10-15 minutes.
For toning and reducing oil on face:
Make a paste of 2 tablespoon amla powder rose water. Apply it on the face and leave for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with water. Repeat this 2 times a week to get a drier and fresher skin.
Reduce skin pigmentation:
Amla powder for face treatments is a great way to show some natural love to your skin. Take 2 tablespoons of amla powder and 2 tablespoons mashed papaya. Mix them together. Apply the mixture on your face by dabbing it on a cotton ball. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Wash off with cool water. Repeat on alternate days for a couple of weeks for visible results.
